SSS Offers Calamity Loan for Typhoon Carina Victims
The Social Security System (SSS) is here to help members affected by Typhoon Carina. If you live in the National Capital Region or other areas that may be declared in a state of calamity, you can apply for a calamity loan to ease the financial burden during this difficult time.
What is the Calamity Loan?
SSS President Rolando Ledesma Macasaet announced that members in the affected areas can borrow money to help them recover from the aftermath of Typhoon Carina. You can apply for a loan equivalent to your one monthly salary credit or up to a maximum of ₱20,000, whichever is lower.
“SSS will always be ready to assist our members in typhoon-affected areas. We want to assure them that in times of calamities, they can rely on SSS to provide them the needed financial assistance as they recover from Typhoon Carina,” Macasaet said.
The SSS calamity loan is designed to help members who have suffered losses or damages due to the typhoon. It provides a much-needed financial lifeline to help cover expenses such as home repairs, medical bills, and other essential needs.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the calamity loan, you must meet the following requirements:
- Have at least 36 monthly contributions to SSS, with 6 of those contributions posted within the last 12 months before applying for the loan.
- Live or reside in the declared calamity area affected by Typhoon Carina.
- Be under 65 years old at the time of loan application.
- Not have any final benefit claims such as permanent total disability or retirement.
- Not have any past due SSS Short-Term Member Loans.
- Not have any outstanding restructured loans or previous calamity loans.
These eligibility criteria ensure that the calamity loan assistance is targeted towards members who have been actively contributing to the SSS system and are in urgent need of financial support due to the typhoon’s impact.
Application Process
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the calamity loan through your My.SSS account on the SSS website (www.sss.gov.ph). The online application process is designed to be convenient and user-friendly, allowing you to submit your request from the comfort of your home or any location with internet access.
Once your application is approved, the loan proceeds will be credited to your registered Unified Multi-Purpose Identification (UMID)-ATM Card or your active account with a participating bank in the Philippine Electronic Fund Transfer System and Operations Network (PESONet). This ensures that you can access the funds quickly and securely.
Loan Repayment Terms
The calamity loan comes with favorable repayment terms to help ease the financial burden on members. You can repay the loan over a period of two years, which means you will make 24 equal monthly payments. The annual interest rate for the loan is set at 10 percent.
Macasaet explained, “Members could pay the calamity loan in two years or 24 equal monthly installments with an annual interest rate of 10 percent.”
This repayment structure allows members to gradually pay back the loan while still having access to the funds during the critical recovery period following the typhoon.
Supporting Members in Times of Need
The SSS has a long history of supporting its members during times of crisis and natural disasters. The calamity loan is just one of the many initiatives the organization has undertaken to assist its members in their time of need.
“We hope that through the calamity loan assistance, we may be able to help typhoon-affected members as they recover from the adverse effects of Typhoon Carina,” Macasaet concluded.
The SSS understands that recovering from a natural disaster can be a daunting and overwhelming process. By providing calamity loan assistance, the organization aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by members, allowing them to focus on rebuilding their lives and communities.
